  • Dr. Nanci Wood-Huels
    Veterinarian and Owner

    Dr. Nanci has been a familiar face in the Effingham area for the past 28 years. Practicing at the Altamont Veterinary Clinic since 1988, she has now grown her practice to include The Pet Wellness Center. “Building a state of the art facility that can provide exceptional care while being cost conscious for our clients has been a dream of my self and my husband’s for many years”. Dr. Wood-Huels and her husband, Dr. Stan Huels have two sons and 6 cats and currently live in Altamont.

  • Dr. Jean Czemski
    Associate Veterinarian

    Growing up in Olney around various animals, Dr. Jean knew she wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. After receiving her Bachelor degree at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, she attended the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, she spent the next seven years practicing in southern Illinois. Dr. Jean enjoys preventative medicine the most, but dermatology and nutrition are of interest as well. She also has two cats, Abby and Tempe. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Jean enjoys reading, drawing, constellation hunting, and visiting with her parents, still in Olney, and their Sheltie, Tucker.

  • Gage Houser
    Office Manager

    Gage came to us from Oblong back in 2014. Since then he has moved his way up and learned the ins and outs of each department of the clinic. He has been our office manager since September of 2017. At the clinic Gage enjoys interacting with all of the clients and their pets. Outside the clinic Gage spends his time with his husband, 5 cats, & his dog, Casper. 

  • Amanda Haas

    Amanda is a Central Illinois native who has lived in this area for nearly 10 years now. She has worked for Pet Wellness Center since July of 2015 and was apart of Dr. Nanci’s transition to the Effingham location. Dogs and Cats have always been a big part of Amanda’s life and she considers her household empty without them. She has Onyx – Pitbull, Gator – Pitbull, Max – Shepard Mix, three cats- Izzy, Charlie & Alley Kat and a wild Peacock named Waylin. Outside of work, Amanda enjoys spending her time with her Husband James and two daughters. They enjoy doing a lot of outdoor activities from camping to yard work, but mostly just spending time as a family is their priority.

  • Erica Marxmann

    Erica enjoys her job as a receptionist. She loves meeting and spending time with the clients and their pets that come into the clinic. Erica is very outgoing and always has a smile on her face. When not working she enjoys gardening, cooking, baking and spending time with her husband and children.

  • Bayleigh Lobmier
    Boarding Manager & Reception

    Bayleigh was born and raised in Effingham Illinois. Bayleigh most enjoys working at the clinic for the opportunity to play with many different dogs. She has a Chinese Shar-pei named Ellis, who loves to snuggle. In Bayleigh’s free time she enjoys listening to music, reading and spending time with her family.

  • Kristina Logsdon
    Veterinary Technician

    Kristina recently graduated from the Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College December of 2016 as a Veterinary Technician. She came to work at the Pet Wellness Center shortly after graduating. Kristina lives in Vandalia with her family and 3 pets. She has 2 dogs, Cici & Lexi, and 1 cat named Pooter. Outside of the clinic Kristina enjoys spending time with her family, playing with her pets and reading.

  • McKayla Frutiger
    Veterinary Technician

    McKayla was born and raised in Newton, IL. McKayla went on to school at the Vet Tech Institute of Hickey College in St.Louis, Missouri, where she graduated in the winter of 2013. McKayla has been working at the Altamont Vet Clinic/Pet Wellness Center of Southern Illinois for 4 years. McKayla enjoys working with the 6 rescues for their spay/neuter days, as well as, helping both the patient and the client be happier and healthier. McKayla has 2 rescued furbabies- Gus the yellow Labrador retriever and Grayson the domestic short hair kitty. McKayla enjoys spending time outdoors and working on carpentry projects with her husband Chad. She, of course, enjoys spending time with her fur children as well.

  • Katie Stodden
    Veterinary Assistant

    Katie came to us in July from Sigel. She actually did her externship for school with us back in May, so when a position opened up, we got her back in right away! While at the clinic, Katie enjoys working with all the animals and getting to know the staff. Outside the clinic Katie spends her time hanging out with her son, family & friends, and her 2 German Shepards, Zoey & Loki. 

  • Ashley Vahling
    Veterinary Assistant

    Ashley grew up in Edwardsville, IL but currently lives in Neoga. She went to school at the University of Illinois and has a degree in Animal Sciences. Ashley loves working at this clinic because it helps prepare her for a career in veterinary medicine and she enjoys all of the pets she gets to help! She says she also enjoys it here because “this clinic is top notch, the vets are talented, and the technicians and other staff are also talented and incredibly hardworking. Everyone is also very nice and fun to be around!” Ashley has four dogs: three Catahoulas and a Plott hound/ Blackmouth Cur cross. Outside of work, she keeps very busy with a full-time school schedule and shadowing other veterinarians. Besides that, she enjoys taking her Catahoulas to compete in hog dog trials and dog shows. She also enjoys hunting, painting, and spending time with her husband.

  • Rebekah Repking
    Veterinary Assistant

    Rebekah Repking grew up on a small beef cattle farm in Southern Illinois. She joined the clinic during the Altamont days in October 2014. Rebekah enjoys assisting the doctors during appointments and interacting with patients and their owners. Outside of work, she loves to spend time outdoors with her husband and daughter; often on the family’s dairy farm.

  • Jen Wormhoudt

    Jennifer is originally a native of Effingham, IL, but now calls Teutopolis, IL home where she lives with her husband, Carl, their 3 children, and their dog and two cats. Prior to joining the PWCSI team, Jennifer has had a wide-ranging career in the animal care field. She graduated with a B.S. in Agriculture with a specialty in Animal Health Technology from Murray State University. She then went on to spend 5 years working as a Veterinary Technologist in veterinary
    clinics, followed by 6 years working in Veterinary Software and Technology, and the past 4 years running her own grooming business, Diamonds in the Ruff Grooming in Teutopolis.

  • Taylor Watson
    Veterinary Assistant

    Taylor grew up in the Effingham area and has always felt connected with animals which is what led her to start out in the field. Taylor really enjoys our clinic because we make sure the animals are as comfortable as possible from grooming and boarding to surgeries. “Everyone here is seems to be good-natured and warm-hearted.” When she is not at the clinic she enjoys her time with her two sons, Noah and Elijah. She also likes playing with her pups Brutus & Duke and her new cat Mila. In her spare time, she likes to read novels or work on crafts and art such as crochet or sketching out ideas on paper before setting them to canvas.

  • Lindsey Sutherland

    Lindsey has a passion for dog grooming. She loves to combine her passion for pets with her creativity to help all animals look and feel their best. She was born and raised in the Chicagoland area and became a trained professional groomer 9 years ago. She recently started grooming with us and enjoys the close-knit clinic atmosphere. Outside of grooming, she enjoys spending time with her family, and 2 dogs. A German Shepherd named Vladimir, and Triton the Newfoundland.

  • Brenna Lynch
    Veterinary Assistant

    Brenna grew up in the small village of Findlay. You can find her back in our grooming department where she enjoys spending one-on-one time with all the dogs that come in and helping to make them look fresh and clean! Outside the clinic Brenna spends most of her time with her daughters and her fiance. Currently Brenna does not have any pets of her own, besides her daughter's fish, but she would like to get some cats and dogs in the near future.
