Dr. Nanci has been a familiar face in the Effingham area for the past 28 years. Practicing at the Altamont Veterinary Clinic since 1988, she has now grown her practice to include The Pet Wellness Center. “Building a state of the art facility that can provide exceptional care while being cost conscious for our clients has been a dream of my self and my husband’s for many years”. Dr. Wood-Huels and her husband, Dr. Stan Huels have two sons and 6 cats and currently live in Altamont.
Growing up in Olney around various animals, Dr. Jean knew she wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. After receiving her Bachelor degree at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, she attended the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, she spent the next seven years practicing in southern Illinois. Dr. Jean enjoys preventative medicine the most, but dermatology and nutrition are of interest as well. She also has two cats, Abby and Tempe. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Jean enjoys reading, drawing, constellation hunting, and visiting with her parents, still in Olney, and their Sheltie, Tucker.
McKayla was born and raised in Newton, IL. McKayla went to school at the Vet Tech Institute of Hickey College in St.Louis, Missouri, where she graduated in the winter of 2013. McKayla enjoys working with the six rescues for their spay/neuter days, as well as, helping both the patient and the client be happier and healthier. McKayla has two rescued furbabies- Gus the yellow Labrador retriever and Grayson the domestic short hair kitty. In her free time, McKayla enjoys spending time outdoors and working on carpentry projects with her husband Chad. She, of course, enjoys spending time with her fur children as well.
Gage came to us from Oblong back in 2014. Since then he has moved his way up and learned the ins and outs of each department of the clinic. He has been our office manager since September of 2017. At the clinic Gage enjoys interacting with all of the clients and their pets. Outside the clinic Gage spends his time with his husband, 5 cats, & his dog, Casper.
Amanda is a Central Illinois native who has lived in this area for nearly 10 years now. She has worked for Pet Wellness Center since July of 2015 and was apart of Dr. Nanci’s transition to the Effingham location. Dogs and Cats have always been a big part of Amanda’s life and she considers her household empty without them. She has Onyx – Pitbull, Gator – Pitbull, Max – Shepard Mix, three cats- Izzy, Charlie & Alley Kat and a wild Peacock named Waylin. Outside of work, Amanda enjoys spending her time with her Husband James and two daughters. They enjoy doing a lot of outdoor activities from camping to yard work, but mostly just spending time as a family is their priority.
Bayleigh was born and raised in Effingham Illinois. Bayleigh most enjoys working at the clinic for the opportunity to play with many different dogs. She has a Chinese Shar-pei named Ellis, who loves to snuggle. In Bayleigh’s free time she enjoys listening to music, reading and spending time with her family.
Kristina recently graduated from the Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College December of 2016 as a Veterinary Technician. She came to work at the Pet Wellness Center shortly after graduating. Kristina lives in Vandalia with her family and 3 pets. She has 2 dogs, Cici & Lexi, and 1 cat named Pooter. Outside of the clinic Kristina enjoys spending time with her family, playing with her pets and reading.
Katie came to us in July from Sigel. She actually did her externship for school with us back in May, so when a position opened up, we got her back in right away! While at the clinic, Katie enjoys working with all the animals and getting to know the staff. Outside the clinic Katie spends her time hanging out with her son, family & friends, and her 2 German Shepards, Zoey & Loki.
Samantha lives in Altamont and has always had a love for learning new facets of veterinary medicine. She enjoys her position as a Vet Assistant with us and frequently assists in surgeries. At home, Samantha is a parent to a beautiful little girl, in addition to a German Shepard, two cats and a Quarter Horse named Penny. In addition to raising her daughter and riding horses, she also enjoys hunting.
Hailey, one of our newest Vet Assistants, is from Vandalia, Illinois. She loves working with all types of animals and finds helping them get better to be the most rewarding part of her job. In her free time, Hailey enjoys spending time with family and going side-by-side riding. She currently owns five dogs and two horses.
Jennifer is originally a native of Effingham, IL where she lives with her 3 children and two cats. Prior to joining the PWCSI team, Jennifer has had a wide-ranging career in the animal care field. She graduated with a B.S. in Agriculture with a specialty in Animal Health Technology from Murray State University. She then went on to spend 5 years working as a Veterinary Technologist in veterinary
clinics, followed by 6 years working in Veterinary Software and Technology, and the past 4 years running her own grooming business, Diamonds in the Ruff Grooming in Teutopolis.
Lindsey has a passion for dog grooming. She loves to combine her passion for pets with her creativity to help all animals look and feel their best. She was born and raised in the Chicagoland area and became a trained professional groomer 9 years ago. She recently started grooming with us and enjoys the close-knit clinic atmosphere. Outside of grooming, she enjoys spending time with her family, and 2 dogs. A German Shepherd named Vladimir, and Triton the Newfoundland.
Jaci was born and raised in Effingham. As a grooming assistant, she works with healthy pets and attributes that to helping make her job stress-free. Jaci enjoys spending time with her family, especially doing arts and crafts with her little sister. Jaci is also a pet owner to five dogs of various breeds, one Columbian Red-Tailed Boa, one Ball Python and a cat named Daisy.
Chandelar joined our team as a Grooming Assistant in March. She loves the work environment at our clinic. From the patients to our staff members, she has enjoyed getting to know each of them. Chandelar is a native of Cowden and enjoys going on walks, visiting museums or just relaxing at home watching movies with her 6 year old son and her boyfriend. Chandelar is a proud pet owner to two dogs. Mya, is a 2 1/2 year old Black Lab and Piper, a Golden Retriever, was born on January 1st, 2019.
